About The Position

Job Description: The Trauma Quality & Data Analyst will be responsible for the identification, abstraction, and entry of trauma-specific variables for all identified trauma patients. This includes careful review and analysis of the medical record for pre-hospital information, injuries, and inpatient procedures as well as the coding of those injuries and procedures utilizing the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and ICD-10 CM and PCS coding system. Additional requirements include assisting with generating trauma registry reports and maintaining documentation within trauma registry summaries. The Trauma Quality & Data Analyst will be responsible for adhering to data collection deadlines as set forth from various regulatory, accreditation, and national agencies. The individual must pay attention to detail and exhibit independence and solid organizational skills in order to accomplish the work. This position involves confidential patient information and the patient’s right to confidentiality shall be respected. The Trauma Quality & Data Analyst will also contribute to data validation efforts and performance improvement initiatives and will ensure accurate and timely submission of trauma data to required registry softwares and state/national databanks

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or equivalent (required)
  • One year in healthcare or related position (required)
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) certification within 2 years of hire (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in related healthcare field (preferred)
  • 2+ years in healthcare data support position (preferred)
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS), Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Utilize logical reasoning, critical thinking, medical terminology, and coding foundations to interpret Provider documentation of injuries and treatments pertaining to the traumatically injured patient. (65%)
  • Assign codes for diagnoses and procedures pertinent to the patient’s visit by utilizing the ICD-10-CM/PCS and Abbreviated Injury Scale classification systems. (20%)
  • Attend educational programs, training sessions, and conferences relating to trauma data collection to maintain currency with coding and data collection practices. (10%)
  • Identify major trends in trauma data collection, prepare graphs and measurement tools as appropriate, and report variances in data to the Trauma Registry Program Manager. (5%)
  • Maintain a comprehensive listing of admitted trauma patients by careful review of daily admissions reports
  • Ensure accuracy of the trauma registry data.
  • Assist with maintenance of the trauma registry database through frequent data backup.
  • Collect additional data variables as requested by the Trauma Medical Director and/or the Director of the Trauma Institute.
  • Ensure proper coding of injury severity for all traumatic injuries using physician/nursing notes, as well as the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Maintain documentation of trauma registry activities by taking meeting minutes and participating in collective team problem solving initiatives
  • Assist with trauma research, education, and other trauma service activities.
  • Maintain accurate data to be sent to approved state and national studies as directed.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic and special reports on trauma data.
  • Participate as an integral member of the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP).
  • Participate in professional development to build skills and knowledge regarding trauma data information.
  • Obtain and analyze data from outside EMS agencies and facilities as needed for data collation and submission into the registry.
  • Assist with preparation for Joint Commission, State, and ACS reverification processes as directed.
  • Interact professionally with other hospital departments and activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate skills and good judgment in identifying and resolving operational, service, and quality problems, enhancing service to internal and external customers.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
