About The Position

The Registered Dietitian functions within a multidisciplinary team to provide nutrition therapy for inpatients and/or outpatients at UofL Health facilities per scope of assignment. The dietitian will provide safe, effective, and evidence-based nutrition care and services in accordance with guidelines from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and other industry principles. The dietitian supports quality clinical outcome practice, and development and growth of individual and team nutrition therapy skills. Responsibilities include meeting objectives for department, facility, and organizational goals; interacting with professional staff, patients, and families; providing comprehensive nutrition therapy and guidance within licensed area of expertise and responsibility; providing quality learning experiences for nutrition students/interns as applicable; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, or eligible for registration and registered within 90 days of start (required)
  • Licensure by the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians, or licensed at next available application period (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in nutrition/dietetics, public health, or education (preferred)
  • One year of experience as a Registered Dietitian in a critical care setting (preferred)
  • One year of experience as a Registered Dietitian in community and/or outpatient nutrition therapy (preferred if in an outpatient role)
  • Specialist or advanced practice certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education, or the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical nutrition therapy using the nutrition care process, including nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and education according to established departmental policies and standards of practice
  • Conducts malnutrition identification and assessment including nutrition-focused physical exam where applicable
  • Is fiscally responsible by adhering to departmental productivity standards while maintaining quality services, and monitoring appropriateness of product and mode of nutrition support
  • Communicates and interacts effectively with patients and families, community members, and health professionals, in accordance with evidence-based nutrition practice and customer service skills
  • Serves as a nutrition resource to other departments, maintaining effective working relationships with members of the medical staff, other healthcare professionals, and affiliates; participates in multi-disciplinary committees and/or activities as directed
  • Improves practice based on quality evaluation, and assists in data collection/analysis and research as directed
  • Supports Nutrition Therapy team goals, participates in self-development to increase department level of service, and assists in keeping practice guidelines current per industry research and standards
  • Precepts and provides supervised practice to nutrition students/interns as applicable, with instruction and application reflecting the standards of UofL Health
  • Maintains competency with regular continuing education, including that in focused area of practice
  • At facilities where dietitian-placed feeding tubes and/or nasal bridling are practice and clinically privileged, once specifically trained and deemed competent, participates in feeding tube and/or nasal bridle placement, documentation, tracking, and competency maintenance per hospital and manufacturer guidelines and requirements
  • In settings where applicable, once trained and/or certified, instructs patients on lactation, insulin injection, continuous glucose monitoring, medication management, and/or insulin pump use
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
