About The Position

The Trauma Performance Improvement (TPI) Coordinator at St. Tammany Health System is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (TPIPS) plan. This role involves identifying events and implementing performance improvement plans to ensure continuous TPIPS. The TPI coordinator collaborates with various departments to resolve problems, improve patient outcomes, and ensure patient safety through performance improvement (PI) activities, including data collection, analysis, trending, and benchmarking. Additionally, the coordinator assists with community outreach, injury prevention, and educational activities, leveraging collected trauma center data. This position requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders on trauma-related performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Required active Louisiana Registered Nurse license with minimum of (3) years’ experience.
  • Must attend or have previously attended two courses within 12 months of being hired: (1) Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) and (2) The Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s (AAAM) Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Course.
  • Must maintain required continuing education specific to trauma standards.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) instructor required within 1 year of hire.
  • Knowledge of hospital HIM Systems, Electronic Health Record, Registry Software, or the ability to learn any software needed to perform duties.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills.
  • Must be able to collaborate with a multidisciplinary work group.
  • Ability to solve problems by analyzing information and using logic to identify performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to manage conflict and tactfully handle complaints and difficult situations.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable to meet timelines.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to change.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with oral and written communication skills and superb time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills is necessary for this position.
  • Knowledgeable of compliance standards and performance improvement processes and the execution of these standards and processes.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for performance improvement and develop actionable solutions to achieve shared organizational objectives and strategic goals.
  • Capable of assuming new responsibilities and functioning independently within the scope of licensing.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Background in trauma, critical care, or emergency medicine is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pre-hospital care environment and standards of practice is preferred.
  • Proficiency with the National Trauma Data Standards, Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) and ICD-10 coding experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (TPIPS) plan.
  • Identify events and implement subsequent performance improvement plans that are the cornerstones of continuous TPIPS.
  • Work in collaboration with other departments to develop problem resolution, improve outcomes and assure patient safety by coordinating and facilitating performance improvement (PI) including data collection, analysis, trending, and benchmarking of data to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Assist in community outreach, injury prevention and educational activities based on collected trauma center data.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on performance improvement initiatives involving trauma.
  • Conduct himself or herself according to the mission, vision and values of St. Tammany Health System.
