About The Position

NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement. This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement. This posting is for a Transportation Worker II in the Traffic Services Sign Unit in Division 10. This position will be located out of the Union County Traffic office. This position will serve as a sign-erector, installing, removing and maintaining signs, signposts, delineators, and hardware and must have the ability to lift signs. Workers shall possess ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices. Employees must comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment. Employees will operate a medium duty truck as well as a variety of hand and power tools. Employees must function under a variety of environmental/weather conditions which include, but not limited to, extreme cold and heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and oils. Applicant shall be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform assigned tasks. Applicant shall be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Employees will be subject to be on call for many types of traffic-related emergencies after regular hours. Workers shall possess the ability to work under conditions of exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction. Safety toe shoes are required. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Must also be able to operate equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT drug testing and post offer employment evaluation. You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least three years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.

Nice To Haves
