Work in this position will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of bridges, pipes, and culverts in Granville County. Job duties include maintenance, repair and construction of state-owned bridges, culverts, and Non-NBIS pipes (54"and greater in diameter) within Division 5. Work is technical in nature and labor intensive & employee will be required to work in and around heavy traffic at interstate speeds, near heavy equipment, power tools, etc. Employee will be required to be familiar with and/or able to learn, but not limited to carpentry skills, welding, pipe fitting, structure painting, machine operation, inspection of various materials that compromise state bridges, large pipes or culverts, utilizing small hand tools and power tools and ability to work in a close team environment or independently as needed. Employee will perform Emergency Call Backs, and during certain times of the year may work a 4-day 10-hour schedule. Must possess good communication skills, follow instructions to complete assigned tasks, demonstrate ability to operate assigned machinery effectively, use of tools associated with related Bridge maintenance and/or construction activities. Must have the ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee will be required to perform work while suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, and during inclement weather. Safety toe footwear required.
