About The Position

This is an anticipated vacancy. 02/01/2025 This position functions as a Transportation Supervisor II in our Orange County Maintenance Unit. Duties include planning and scheduling maintenance activities, assign crews & equipment to tasks, determine resource needs including materials, inspect activities of crews in progress & upon completion for compliance with standards & instructions, check & monitor work reports of subordinates, accounting for time, work completed, materials & equipment used. Assignments include responding to complaints, requests & routine inspection of problems & conditions in order to plan work, relaying information about policy, procedures & standards to all employees, assisting with interviewing and recommending hiring of employees, maintaining diaries and other required records, perform routine safety audits and monitor inventory. Additional duties include coordinating and supervising force account construction, monitoring expenditures and work accomplished to assure compliance with budgets and work plans.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and seven years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
  • Direct, assist, and train lower-level employees.
  • Maintain accurate records of work accomplished.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Ability to communicate, establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, management, and the general public.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to respond and work in emergency call situations and inclement weather.
  • Operate state vehicle.
  • Safety toed shoes required.
  • Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
