About The Position

We are an FQHC community health center dedicated to embodying the values central to American Indian cultures. This includes respect for our patients, acknowledgement of the whole person, and a focus on working together to ensure health for the individual, and therefore the community. We invite persons of all tribes, ethnic backgrounds and walks of life to experience the comprehensive care we deliver and to contribute to the services we provide for children, youth, families, adults, and elders. We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Driver to support our patients by providing safe transportation to and from medical appointments. The Driver plays an important role in ensuring patients arrive on time, feel supported, and have a positive experience throughout their visit. The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below:

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work with patients of diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized.
  • Ability to lift or assist patients as needed.
  • Successful background and life scan clearance.
  • Has a clean driving record and insurance as required by the state.
  • CPR/BLS certification: Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross, or an equivalent organization. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on skills assessment. Online-only certifications are not accepted.
  • Annual background checks: Consent to annual background checks as a condition of continuous employment, to ensure compliance with organizational standards and eligibility requirements.
  • For-Cause Drug Screening: Comply with drug screening requirements when initiated by the organization for cause, to support a safe, compliant, and drug-free workplace.
  • Ongoing Compliance Requirements: Maintain up-to-date compliance with all required annual renewals including professional licenses, certifications, physical examinations. TB testing, and mandatory regulatory trainings as assigned by the San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite or related programs.
  • Able to lift/move up to 15 pounds, move from place to place.
  • Able to sit at a desk or in a vehicle and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Able to stand, bend and reach for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to do math, organize and prioritize workload, work effectively and efficiently under stress.
  • Ability to multitask, understand, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous driving or transportation experience preferred
  • Experience serving a multicultural population.
  • Experience working in healthcare, community services, or patient transportation.
  • Familiarity with local roads and routes.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up patients from their homes or designated locations and transport them safely to medical appointments
  • Return patients home after appointments as scheduled
  • Assist patients with entering and exiting the vehicle as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-maintained vehicle
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety guidelines, and organizational policies
  • Communicate professionally with patients, clinic staff, and supervisors
  • Maintain accurate trip logs such as but not limited to who was picked up, dropped off and times.
  • Provide courteous, respectful, and culturally sensitive service at all times
