The Load Mapping Clerk is responsible for planning and documenting the loading of freight onto trucks, ensuring optimal space utilization, adherence to weight distribution regulations, and timely deliveries. This role coordinates with warehouse and transportation teams to streamline operations and reduce delays or damages during transit. This position will report to the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in warehouse operations, transportation planning, or routing coordination.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, load balancing, and freight routing principles.
  • Proficient in routing/load optimization tools and WMS/TMS platforms; Microsoft Excel experience required.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities; capable of handling fast-paced environments.
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in Google Suite; experience with AS400 or similar systems is preferred.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift) within a warehouse and loading dock environment.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods while performing clerical duties, including working on a computer, reviewing load documentation, and coordinating routing schedules.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally, and up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead or below waist level to access shipping materials, trailers, or documentation stations.
  • Sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate computers, scanners, and office equipment, as well as handle load documentation and labels.
  • Must have visual acuity to read labels, load plans, and routing documents, and auditory ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment.
  • Must adhere to all company safety policies, wear required PPE (such as safety vests, steel-toe footwear, and hearing protection), and participate in safety trainings.
  • Regular use of computers, printers, handheld scanners, two-way radios, and occasional use of basic material handling tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus; forklift certification a plus.
  • Experience with RoadNet Anywhere or other transportation routing software is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize routing software (e.g., RoadNet) to balance trailer loads based on product size, weight, and pallet configuration.
  • Develop and maintain accurate load maps and documentation for all outgoing shipments.
  • Review order details and truck specifications to determine optimal loading patterns.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT weight limits and axle load requirements.
  • Communicate load plans to warehouse loaders, drivers, and dispatch teams.
  • Track and verify accuracy of loaded freight against shipping documents.
  • Report any discrepancies or damages to the appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate loading schedules to meet delivery timelines and reduce dwell time.
  • Maintain records of load configurations for audits or claims investigations.
  • Assist with warehouse functions, such as staging freight or scanning inventory, as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in loading efficiency and safety.
  • Provide routing support as needed, including but not limited to vacation scheduling, routine routing maintenance, and driver communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
