The growing Mary Free Bed Network provides patients throughout the state with access to our unique standard of care Under the direction of the Security and Emergency Manager, the Transport Team Lead is responsible for direct supervision of the Patient Transport team and administration of the fleet vehicle program. This includes coordinating and collaborating with multiple departments to assess transportation needs, coordinating daily transport schedules, ensuring regulatory standards for company-owned vehicles are maintained, and assisting the organization with planning for vehicle acquisitions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid State of Michigan driver's license
  • Chauffeur license required to obtain within first 30 days of employment
  • Must, within 90-day training period become certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Customer service experience (Health Care industry preferred)
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and extended hours as needed.
  • Must have and maintain a driving record with no Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) or Operating While Visibly Impaired (OWVI) infractions and 4 points or less (to meet company fleet insurance requirements).
  • Must have problem resolution skills
  • Must have ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-task
  • Ability to work in inclement weather (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.) for an entire shift.
  • Note: Shifts will not be cancelled due to inclement weather and all employees will be required to attend their scheduled shifts and maintain a high quality of work despite weather conditions
  • Ability to speak, read and write standard English language; to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; to write simple correspondence
  • Must be able to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Responsibilities

  • Patient Transport Program Oversight
  • Provides direct supervision, training, and development for patient transport personnel including developing a team that provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for patients.
  • Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Inpatient Access team and other departments to ensure patient transport needs are met.
  • Conducts inter-departmental training for staff on appropriate use of wheelchair tie-downs and transport procedures.
  • Is available to provide direct transportation support as needed in the event of increased demand or low staffing.
  • Fleet Management
  • Primary oversight for the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Vehicle Fleet including assisting stakeholders with scheduling and securing routine maintenance for company-owned vehicles.
  • Maintains accurate records of all company-owned vehicles and approved drivers.
  • Completes the administration of gas card program.
  • Assists leadership with fleet acquisition planning by tracking vehicle mileage and maintenance expenses.
  • Ensures all vehicles have appropriate safety equipment as determined by regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains vehicle registrations and collaborates with Risk Management to ensure appropriate insurance coverage is maintained for all company-owned vehicles.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment during transport for the patient and their belongings
  • Drives company vehicles for outings and other hospital activities with staff or patients for both short and long-distance trips of up to three (3) hours each way while remaining alert and maintaining a high level of professionalism, situational awareness, and decision-making abilities.
  • Transports patients, visitors, or other guests to different areas of the MFB campus by wheelchair or escorting them as needed.
  • Protects all hospital patient and staff confidentiality.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis.
  • Maintains positive appearance and professional image
  • Adheres to hospital policies
  • Ability to function in an environment with possible exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious/hazardous materials, and possible exposure to high or low temperatures as both inside and outside conditions indicate.
  • Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, clients, and associate
  • Uses verbal communication devices (phones, radios, etc.) in a clear, concise, and professional manner to meet and exceed the internal and external customer service expectations.
  • Utilizes computers and related software (Microsoft Office).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
