About The Position

Under the direction of the Transportation Coordinator, the Transit Dispatcher is responsible for the coordination and dispatching of daily transportation services for Archuleta County's MET Transit system. This includes scheduling drivers and passenger services, communicating effectively with staff and the public, maintaining accurate service logs and documentation, and ensuring consistent operational coverage of all transit routes. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, regulatory compliance, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to respond quickly to changing needs throughout the day. The Dispatcher also supports driver operations and may be required to perform driving duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED plus three years' experience in a public transit or resort passenger transportation environment.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Direct bus drivers, assign routes and equipment, and keep MET Transit system operational.
  • Schedules drivers and clients needing paratransit and on-call services.
  • Answers the phones, greets the public, and conveys complaints and compliments to drivers and Coordinator.
  • Monitor daily bus assignments, ensuring bus routes and special service routes are covered.
  • Reviews driver log information. Monitors daily, weekly and monthly log information, mileage, program income, and ridership.
  • Submits grant and contract invoicing.
  • Oversees time entry submittals for staff ensuring complete and accurate information.
  • Knowledgeable in all County and MET policies; familiar with all applicable State D.O.T. and Federal regulations
  • Ensures staff are current with training, as required by the County, the State, and FTA.
  • Update vehicle service schedule with fleet maintenance and arrange vehicle swaps as necessary.
  • Direct Transit personnel to perform vehicle inspections, vehicle switch-outs, vehicle drop-offs, and all necessary extra work on a daily basis in order to keep the MET system running.
  • Provides backup duties for drivers, including scheduled and non-scheduled driving, pre- and post-trip inspections, accident and emergency procedures, and other driver-related driver relief.
  • Schedules and ensures office and vehicles are kept clean and maintained.
  • Creates and maintains office and operating forms, spreadsheets, data collection, and passenger lists.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned including but not limited to office management, recordkeeping and some aspects of grant administration.
  • Collect statistical information or conduct surveys as needed.
  • Assists with planning committees and meetings related to transportation.
  • Drives vehicles according to the policies and procedures of the Transportation Department. May be required to relieve or fill in for scheduled drivers.
  • Provides friendly and knowledgeable customer service.
  • Aids disabled passengers as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including safe operation of wheelchair lifts and restraints.
