This 1-year position is responsible for participating in the NYBC Fellowship program, an ACGME-accredited postgraduate medical education program designed to prepare physicians for board certification in transfusion medicine and for practice as medical directors of transfusion services or blood donor centers. The program involves structured rotations, including 4 months at Hospital Site 1, 4 months at Hospital Site 2 (both assigned by the Program Director), and 4 months at NYBCe-Rye. Fellows are required to attend all necessary meetings, conferences, and lectures, and travel to the Rhode Island Blood Center. The curriculum encompasses rotations through specialized areas such as special donor services, immunohematology and blood group genomics, HLA laboratory, core operations & infectious disease laboratory, and comprehensive cell solutions. A scholarly project, which can involve bench research, clinical research, or quality improvement, must be completed, and participation in journal club is expected. Fellows are also tasked with providing feedback on their acquired knowledge and skills, and the overall program experience, ensuring they meet the core learning objectives. The role includes providing first-call medical coverage under the supervision of senior medical staff and offering medical support for all NYBC blood services operations and other clinical services. Fellows must meticulously document their Clinical and Educational Hours and report any instances where duties exceed limits set by ACGME and NY State regulations to the Program Director. Additionally, fellows will work on special projects as assigned.
