Job Summary: Mary Washington Healthcare provides training, in association and cooperation with its affiliated participating institutions. The position of FMOB Fellow involves a combination of supervised, progressively more complex and independent patient evaluation and/or management functions, formal educational activities, and research responsibilities. The provision of healthcare and other professional services by the FMOB Fellow is commensurate with their level of advancement and competence, under the general supervision of appropriately privileged attending teaching faculty. FMOB Fellows must meet program-specific training requirements and board eligibility standards in order to successfully complete their program. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Participate in the clinical evaluation and care of patients in a variety of patient care settings with sufficient frequency to achieve the competencies required by their discipline under the supervision of attending faculty. Learners may write orders and progress notes in patient charts; however, attending physicians retain responsibility for patient care and must review all care provided. Perform procedures specified by the program director under the direct supervision of an attending physician. Learners may only perform procedures for which the attending physician has privileges. Once a learner has demonstrated competence in a procedure, the program director may certify them to perform it independently, as appropriate to the level of training and program requirements. Assume progressive responsibility for patient care activities in accordance with the learner's education level, skill, and experience. The program director and attending faculty determine each learner's degree of responsibility and autonomy. Maintain continuous communication with supervising attendings regarding clinical findings, test interpretations, and proposed interventions. Engage fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program, including teaching and supervising junior learners and students, as appropriate. Participate in institutional committees and councils relevant to their education and/or patient care, including but not limited to quality assurance and improvement activities. Develop and maintain a personal learning plan with faculty guidance to support continued professional development. Adhere to all institutional, programmatic, and affiliated site policies and procedures, including those outlined in the GME Policy and Procedure Manual.
