About The Position

As Ohio's chief compliance officer, the Auditor of State (AOS) makes Ohio government more efficient, effective, and transparent by placing checks and balances on state and local governments for taxpayers. The AOS is seeking an experienced individual to serve as a Training Officer within the Training Department in downtown Columbus (a hybrid role with scheduled remote work and periodic on -side days at the office and/or event venues; the balance of remote work and periodic on-site work will vary throughout the year based on operational needs). The position will involve occasional travel for training events, both within the Columbus area and to regional locations across the state. The ideal candidate will live in or within close proximity to Franklin County in the Central Region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in Business, Education, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products preferred (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate internal and external training events and conferences in virtual, hybrid, and in-person formats.
  • Independently schedule presenters and participants, manage event timelines, determine facility locations, coordinate room setup, catering, audiovisual needs, and technology requirements, and assist with negotiating vendor contracts and event budgets.
  • Ensure all required training materials (sign-in sheets, brochures, handouts, etc.) are accurate, complete, and prepared in a timely manner.
  • Host and support training sessions by launching presentations, managing Q & A, monitoring attendance, and providing technical assistance.
  • Ensure training events meet approval requirements, including verifying continuing education hours and confirming compliance with Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book).
  • Receive, review, and report on training evaluation feedback (e.g., curriculum, complaints, suggestions). Effectively communicate training program information and serve as a primary contact for training related inquiries.
  • Assist local government officials in understanding and meeting statutory training requirements, including the Fiscal Integrity Act.
  • Provide guidance on accessing and completing required training as the annual Fraud webinar.
  • Respond to inquiries from public officials regarding compliance deadlines, documentation, and portal navigation.
  • Manage the Fiscal Integrity Act online portal and responds to related questions from employees and government officials.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of training activities, including compiling training data, preparing correspondence, disseminating scheduling information, and maintaining electronic employee training files.
  • Enter, track, and verify continuing education (CPE) hours for audit staff to ensure compliance with Yellow Book requirements.
  • Administer policies and procedures for employees seeking or renewing professional certifications and memberships.
  • Update and maintain training content on the Auditor of State's public website and internal employee site.
  • Maintain multiple email accounts used for training, certification, and general inquiries.
  • Organize and preserve training documentation, approvals, attendance records, presenter materials, and event files.
  • Operate and troubleshoot computer, audiovisual, and virtual platform technology, including registration systems and webinar tools.
  • Manage event setup within virtual platforms and ensure presenters are prepared and supported.
  • Coordinate venue logistics, catering, room setup, and technology needs for in-person events.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, leadership, vendors, government officials, and partner organizations.
  • Respond to routine inquiries from staff and the public.
  • Support administrative processes related to training, compliance, and professional development.
