This position is remote but will require travel to & from schools several days per week by state assigned vehicle. Must complete annual training to retain and build skills as a firearms operator and instructor in accordance with OSSC policy. This position is unclassified per section 124.11(A)(9) ORC. A comparative analysis and/or drug-test may be a requirement of the hiring process. Ohio Department of Public Safety – Ohio School Safety Center Report in Location: 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus OH 43223 (Franklin County) Region 11 will work in the following assigned counties: Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, and Union This position will require daily travel to locations within their assigned area utilizing a state vehicle Perks of Working for the Ohio Department of Public Safety Multiple pay increases over the first years of service! School Safety Center Assisting local schools and law enforcement with preventing, preparing for, and responding to threats and acts of violence, including self-harm, through a holistic, solutions-based approach to improving school safety.

Requirements

  • 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in business administration management science or public administration.
  • completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; AND 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position.
  • completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file; AND 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position or staff position involving planning, research &/or policy/procedure development.
  • 1 yr. exp. as Program Administrator 1, 63122.
  • equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
  • Licensed peace officer as defined in division (A)(1) of section 109.71 of the Ohio Revised Code; OR a veteran as defined in division (A) of section 5502.701.
  • Valid Driver's License Required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide program direction & respond to programmatic issues &/or needs
  • Plan, write & implement goals & objectives for assigned region.
  • Serve as the face of the OSSC Safety & Crisis Section & Training program for physical safety initiatives by facilitating information sharing, leading &/or monitoring training groups, & transmitting decisions &/or directives.
  • Work with the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce (ODEW) 16 State Support Teams, regional liaisons & school resource officers to deliver comprehensive school safety services to schools.
  • Develop curriculum & provide instruction & training, to include tactical live firearms training, that individuals may complete in order to satisfy the criterion specified within Ohio Revised Code.
  • Operate state training equipment & training aids in order to provide school safety training to school staff & first responders.
  • Provide services regarding school & campus safety & security to public & non-public primary & secondary schools
  • Assist administrators with any other security protocols for activities or events outside of a school building during or after school hours
  • Conduct security & vulnerability assessments using crime prevention through environmental design tools.
  • Formulate & implement school safety policies & programs at the regional level
  • Analyze & evaluate procedures, policies, &/or best practices for regional programs
  • Provide technical advice &/or recommendations to aid administrators in decision making
  • Implement statewide best practices in various school safety topics as developed by regional administrator.
