About The Position

HomeFirst’s People Services Division is building a proactive, trauma-informed, people-centered learning ecosystem that equips over 500 staff; hourly, managers, directors, VPs, and C-Suite to excel in their roles and deliver compassionate service to our community. The Training Manager plays a critical leadership role in operationalizing this vision. This position manages and coaches a team of Training Coordinators, oversees execution of training delivery, and partners with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency, quality, and accessibility of all training offerings. The Training Manager ensures compliance with funding requirements, enhances onboarding pathways, and supports the development of a culture of continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Education, Organizational Development, Social Services, or related field or three-year minimum equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in training, learning & development, or HR.
  • 1–2 years of supervisory or team lead experience (or equivalent demonstrated leadership).
  • Experience managing high-volume or multi-site training programs.
  • Knowledge of adult-learning, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive training practices.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work may occur outside of normal business hours, some nights and weekends may be required.
  • Valid CA Driver License
  • Reliable personal vehicle & insurance
  • Able to perform sedentary work
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to use keyboard and read computer screens for extended periods
  • Able to stand/sit for extended periods, kneel, reach and bend related to the duties

  • Experience in homelessness services, housing, behavioral health, or related nonprofits.
  • Experience with LMS administration or e-learning development.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of Training Coordinators, providing regular coaching, feedback, and professional development.
  • Oversee coordinator workload distribution, scheduling, and prioritization to meet agency-wide training needs.
  • Support the Director of Training & Development in creating departmental goals, metrics, and annual workplans.
  • Promote a collaborative, learner-centered team culture rooted in HomeFirst’s values.
  • Coordinate team participation in special initiatives, pilots, and program-specific learning engagements.
  • Ensure delivery, quality, and continual improvement of all mandatory training (e.g., County/City-mandated training, OSHA, HIPAA, First Aid/CPR, etc.).
  • Manage execution of role-specific onboarding learning pathways for staff, including frontline staff, people leaders, and specialty roles.
  • Partner closely with HR Generalists (HRGs) and Employee Relations to identify training gaps tied to turnover, discipline trends, or communication challenges at program sites.
  • Work with the Director and Conflict/ER Trainer (outside your direct supervision) to ensure training coordinators reinforce core conflict resolution and trauma-responsive concepts in their curriculum.
  • Support pilot programs or targeted training interventions for sites needing intensive coaching.
  • Reinforce and monitor use of standardized curriculum templates, learning objectives, assessments, and facilitation guides by the coordinator team.
  • Review coordinator-created content for accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with adult-learning best practices.
  • Support conversion of existing training into blended or e-learning formats.
  • Ensure training materials reflect HomeFirst’s competencies and organizational values.
  • Develop a series of growth and career development modules for current employees that include position-specific training.
  • Actively research appropriate training that support excellence in service delivery across the agency.
  • Partner with Recruiting to ensure effective integration of training into new-hire onboarding.
  • Collaborate with HRGs on coaching leaders through performance management and required training.
  • Work with Program Directors and VPs to understand local site training needs and ensure appropriate coordinator assignments.
  • Coordinate with Payroll/HR on tracking completions tied to training policies and procedures.
  • Oversee timely training tracking, documentation, and compliance reporting through the LMS or interim tools.
  • Ensure audit-ready documentation for all funder and regulatory expectations.
  • Monitor training completion data by site, job class, and division, escalating patterns of non-compliance.
  • Prepare monthly dashboards or summaries for the Director of Training & Development.
