About The Position

AC Transit is looking for a qualified Training and Education Assistant Manager (Maintenance). Under general supervision, this position, provides professional level expertise to the Training and Education Manager; develops, organizes, and administers Training and Education Department programs; and assists in the oversight of Training and Education Center (TEC) facilities and equipment. Requirements

  • Experience: Four (4) years in employee training and development, where duties consisted of developing, monitoring, and training employees in Transportation and/or revenue vehicle Maintenance operations; including two (2) years of supervisory experience where duties included responsibility for those functions listed under "Knowledge" and "Abilities."
  • Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • For Maintenance Assignment:Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" Driver License, and meet the District's safe driving standards.

Nice To Haves

  • (1). A credential to teach or supervise instructional programs equivalent to the credentials issued by the California Department of Education.
  • (2) Fluency in one or more additional languages.
  • (3) Experience with fixed-route bus operations, and/or revenue vehicle Maintenance training.
  • Knowledge and experience with zero-emission vehicle systems and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides expertise and administration to the Training and Education Manager in all aspects of department operations, and assists in developing and monitoring goals for the department.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the development and implementation of transportation and/or maintenance training and education programs.
  • Assists the Training and Education Manager in the development of operational procedures and performance standards, including methods and criteria for testing and evaluating trainees.
  • Supervises all Training Instructors assigned to the TEC, coordinates workflow, and assigns Instructors to conduct training sessions based on identified training and education needs, as well as District transportation or Maintenance objectives and operations.
  • Conducts training sessions and workshops for Training Instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for driver training, new employee orientation, passenger relations, refresher training, accident prevention, and/or technical maintenance training.
  • Evaluates training procedures and programs based on knowledge, experience, and statistical data regarding effectiveness; and chooses appropriate methods such as individual coaching, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops.
  • Evaluates the performance of Training Instructors assigned to Transportation, and/or Maintenance; and provides constructive criticism and support.
  • Develops, writes, and organizes training manuals, references, testing and evaluation procedures, audio-visual aids, and other materials.
  • Screens, tests, and counsels existing District employees, and recommends employees for appropriate training and education programs, including refresher training.
  • Provides expertise to the Training and Education Manager in preparation of the department budget, and recommends and monitors expenditures.
  • Reviews complaints and suggestions for future training programs.
  • Monitors the establishment and maintenance of training records, department reports, and data analyses.
  • Consults with other public agencies and external organizations regarding training programs.
  • Provides advice and expertise to Human Resources staff regarding pre-employment testing, and training programs for Bus Operators, and/or Maintenance personnel.
  • Fills in for the Training and Education Manager in his/her absence.
  • Recommends personnel actions related to hiring, staffing, promotion, transfers, and discipline of subordinate personnel.
  • Performs related duties as required.
