About The Position

This position is accountable for the design and preparation of contract plans for traffic control signal installations and modernizations, highway signing, roadway lighting, crash analysis reports for project development, and serious safety hazard finding for all the school districts in District 2. It also includes the review of contract plans for traffic-related projects from outside agencies and the development of a list of candidate Hazard Elimination and Safety Program projects based on the annual listing of High Accident Locations. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is seeking to hire for this role. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Occasional districtwide and statewide travel.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares contract plans for traffic signals, lighting, signing projects, and serious safety hazard findings.
  • Reviews plans from outside agencies to ensure compliance with department policies.
  • Assists in preparing the District Safety Improvement Program.
  • Provides expertise to analyze accident patterns and identify corrective measures.
  • Researches file data to prepare written or oral responses to inquiries directed at the district concerning traffic engineering.
  • Supplies district personnel and outside agencies with information regarding traffic engineering.
  • Performs, analyzes, and makes recommendations relative to special projects as assigned.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
