About The Position

This position is accountable for conducting a continuing program of traffic control planning and inspection to ensure maximum safety and convenience where construction, maintenance, or utility work is being performed under traffic.Essential Functions Conducts visual inspections both day and night of traffic control devices in construction and maintenance areas to ensure they are properly installed and operating. Reviews and revises as necessary the traffic control plan for projects to ensure they comply with applicable standards. Participates in preconstruction meetings to discuss and revise traffic control plans if necessary, so that all parties involved understand their responsibilities for providing proper traffic control. Ensures that temporary traffic control devices meet standards and approves traffic control plans for those where no standard is applicable. Coordinates the Illinois State Police Gabz (hireback) program. Reviews and approves oversize / overweight permits that move through the district. Performs duties in accordance with departmental safety policies and for the training of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) staff of highway traffic control standards, flagger, and spotter activities. Reviews and approves the Serious Safety Hazard, Logo, and Tourist Oriented Directional Signs (TODS) programs. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Districtwide travel.
  • 24 hour on-call availability.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
