The Tool and Die Technician repairs, and maintains dies, fixtures, and all other tooling in conformance to customer and/or company specifications per control plans. This role analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. The technician is also responsible for maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with procedures and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Tool and Die Maker Certification
  • 5 Years experience as Tool and Die Maker
  • Extensive experience with metal working tools including drills, milling machines, grinders and lathes
  • In Depth knowledge on troubleshooting in die operation and die Assembly
  • Knowledge of and experience with Lock-Out, Tag-Out procedures
  • Able to strictly adhere to safety policies/procedures and be committed to customer quality.
  • Must be available for regular standby assignments; work scheduled off-hours and emergency overtime as required.
  • Autonomy, extensive experience working with engineers and machinists and working with little supervision
  • Extensive experience in metallurgic knowledge understanding the properties of metals
  • Solid knowledge of trigonometry and shop math
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Must be willing to attend training sessions as needed, including out of state locations
  • Possess strong work ethic and knowledge of intermediate troubleshooting
  • Able to read printed materials, blueprints, schematics, and computer graphics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships employees, vendors, contractors, and suppliers
  • Ability to show attention to detail in a very fast paced environment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Reading and Interpreting Blueprints, design schematics and CAD drawings
  • Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances
  • Design jigs and templates as supports in the fabrication of parts
  • Setting up and operate grinders, mills, lathes, drill presses, parts cleaning, basic ovens, band saws, jib hoists
  • Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions.
  • Grinding carbide, fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify dies, jigs, gauges using machining and hand tools
  • Assemble and disassemble tools and die parts supporting the production areas to guarantee tools are repaired on time to ensure the continuous production and increase plant productivity
  • Inspecting tools and dies for defects, perform repairs
  • Diagnose and repair complex electro-mechanical problems with manufacturing equipment
  • Perform detailed setup on equipment including recipe changes and control adjustments
  • Repair and keep mechanical machine components in top operating condition
  • Maintain and repair pneumatic systems including repairs of cylinders and other components
  • Perform simple to complex mechanical Preventative Maintenance Tasks following instructions
  • Enter all work completed in computer-based maintenance program
  • Adjust equipment based on Statistical Process Control data and team with QA
  • Support our culture of sustained continuous improvement programs with the Corner Stone Building Brands organization
  • Support Tooling Efficiency Improvement and Scrap Reduction Projects.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures for Die Repairs and keep detailed records of tool maintenance, repairs, change overs
  • Comply & promote all environmental, health & safety programs, laws and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
