About The Position

The Tool and Die Technician participates in installations and start-up assistance for new installations and die modifications, and designs and fabricates small fixtures for equipment. This role focuses on improving efficiency and ensuring quality standards, both individually and as part of a team. The technician assists Quality Assurance with implementing corrective actions from customer rejections and communicates with other shifts, operators, and technicians regarding die status. Key responsibilities include interpreting blueprints and schematics, performing preventive, predictive, project, and reactive maintenance, and making necessary changes to maintenance schedules based on lessons learned. The technician must react quickly to die issues, troubleshoot effectively using the 5 why method to determine root causes, and execute repairs to restore dies to safe and efficient operational status. The role also involves communicating repair details to management, maintaining accurate service records, inputting data into the maintenance management system, communicating essential spare parts needs, and developing process improvements. Additionally, the technician assists in training newly assigned team members on equipment maintenance and safety instructions.

Requirements

  • Experience with tool and die (maintenance and repair)
  • Good communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent visual skills for assessing functionality of dies
  • Above basic mathematical skills
  • Reasoning ability
  • Knowledge of OSHA Requirements to include Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding, confined space, and Lockout/Tagout Procedures
  • Basic working knowledge of computer software, email, Excel, Word, and the internet
  • Experience with operating a forklift
  • Ability to operate with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings
  • Demonstrates team spirit, shows flexibility, and a positive attitude as an active team contributor
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, is able to recognize and appropriately escalate issues when situations arise
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-hire basic skills tests and assessments
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment background check, physical exam and drug screening
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4 years of tool and die experience in a manufacturing environment, or a combination of 2 years of tool and die experience plus an associate’s degree from an accredited community, technical or vocational college in a related technical field

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited community, technical, or vocational college related to a technical field
  • USDOL Tool and Die Journeyman certification
  • Lean / process improvement tools experience and/or interest in advancing knowledge in this area

Responsibilities

  • Participates in installations and start-up assistance for new installations and die modifications
  • Design and fabricate small fixtures for equipment
  • Discovers methods of improving efficiency and ensuring quality standards, as an individual and part of a team
  • Assists QA with finding and implementing corrective actions from customer rejections
  • Communicates with other shifts, operators, and technicians to give and receive updates on die status
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics, implement methods, practices, and techniques of maintaining dies
  • Performs preventive, predictive, project, and reactive maintenance as required
  • Makes necessary changes to predictive maintenance schedules based on lessons learned
  • Reacts quickly to die issues, evaluates specific nature of trouble through effective troubleshooting and analysis of data, uses 5 why method, determines root causes of trouble, determines necessary repair, and executes/expedites repair and recovery to restore die to safe and efficient operational status
  • Reads lessons learned across to other dies/issues with the same concern
  • Communicates specific nature of die repair and recovery, along with causes, to appropriate management and operations personnel
  • Maintains accurate service records so that the performance of dies can be monitored
  • Inputs appropriate work order and die repair data into the maintenance management system, as appropriate to assigned tasks
  • Communicates required supply of essential spare parts
  • Where appropriate, develops, designs, and implements process improvements to enhance performance and reliability
  • Assists in training newly assigned team members in the maintenance of equipment in accordance with work and safety instructions and production schedules
  • Other duties as assigned
