About The Position

The Tipping Floor Supervisor is responsible for managing all tipping hall and scale‑related operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant facility performance. This role provides daily direction to skilled‑trade employees, equipment operators, and scale personnel, and ensures that traffic flow, material movement, equipment usage, and floor operations run smoothly and without bottlenecks. Candidates must be highly people‑oriented, able to communicate effectively, and experienced in operational environments involving waste, ash, or metals recovery, such as TTF, WPF, transfer stations, or municipal sanitation departments. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong operational oversight and the ability to work closely with both internal teams and external partners.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of hands‑on experience in tipping floor operations, waste handling, transfer stations, metals recovery, sanitation operations, or similar industrial environments.
  • Supervisory experience with skilled‑trade workers or equipment operators.
  • Experience with mobile equipment (front‑end loaders, bobcats, etc.).
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to qualify to wear a full‑face respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all tipping hall operations, including traffic flow, dumping areas, and material movement.
  • Oversee activities involving tipping floor management, ash crane operations, metals recovery operations, and overall process coordination.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all equipment and floor areas.
  • Maintain responsibility for equipment cleanliness, greasing, oil checks, and identifying deficiencies for follow‑up.
  • Manage and review the scale manifest to ensure accuracy of all incoming and outgoing loads.
  • Support scale operations and maintain proper inventory levels for incoming waste streams and materials.
  • Verify that scale data is correctly recorded and reported.
  • Supervise skilled‑trade workers and equipment operators assigned to tipping floor operations.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and development to team members.
  • Oversee scheduling, PTO coverage, overtime tracking, and general workforce planning.
  • Complete timecard approvals, performance evaluations, and corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure all team members receive proper training and follow established operating procedures.
  • Work with mobile equipment such as front‑end loaders, bobcats, forklifts, and similar machinery.
  • Support proper operation, inspection, and reporting of equipment condition.
  • Promote and enforce safety procedures and policies for the fuels and materials‑handling teams.
  • Monitor production and maintenance activities and participate in both scheduled and unscheduled outage planning.
  • Assist in developing and improving operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve operational, technical, and administrative issues.
  • Maintain consistent communication with operations leadership, scale personnel, and internal support teams.
  • Ensure timely sharing of updates, operational status, and any issues related to material flow or equipment.
  • Implement and manage the radiation alarm process, including proper documentation and compliance.
