About The Position

The FFT Therapist provides direct clinical treatment to assigned family using methods compatible with Functional Family Therapy (FFT) principles and practices.

Requirements

  • BS/BA from an accredited college or university in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, and/or marriage and family is required.
  • MS/MA from an accredited college or university in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, and/or marriage and family is required with either:
  • One (1) year of post master's clinical experience OR
  • Two (2) semesters of internship in the Psychological and Social Services Unit of Harris County Juvenile Probation or in Harris County Children's Forensic Unit.
  • Applicant must be fully licensed in clinical or counseling psychology and/or social work (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LPA) within three (3) years of date of hire.
  • Spanish Speaking required.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the following: family system theory, behavioral theory, pragmatic family therapist as well as the application for each.
  • Must demonstrate a direct use of pragmatic (i.e. structural, strategic, and functional) family therapies as well as a marital therapy using behaviorally-based approaches.
  • Completes, submits, and uploads required documents for each assigned family in a timely manner as directed by the FFT supervisor.
  • Provides appropriate information as directed by FFT supervisor to the department and court staff in a timely manner in reference to treatment progress of assigned family.
  • Accurate record retention of clinical work with minimal errors.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Upon receiving a conditional job offer, all applicants must undergo a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • All applicants must provide evidence of a tuberculosis (TB) skin test. If the attest result is positive, additional documentation will be required.
  • All employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as well as testing based on reasonable suspicion that the employee may be under the influence of a substance prohibited by the county's drug and alcohol policy during the course and scope of employment.
  • In the event of a public emergency declared by the county, staff may be assigned to other duties, facilities, or departments under the supervision of another county department.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • Employees in this position must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's license and maintain liability insurance coverage at least equal to the minimum amounts required by law.
  • Certified copies of educational transcripts and/or college credits will be required during the hiring process.
  • This position involves working with challenging youth where the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies may be necessary to ensure the safety of both youth and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for engaging key family participants in active change-oriented treatment by focusing on engagement, motivation, relational assessment, behavior change and generalization.
  • Actively participates in FFT training, supervision and consultation activities.
  • Assists families by referring them to appropriate services and supports to include both clinical and concrete services.
  • Maintains clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrates compliance with the FFT Principles.
  • Collaborates with other service providers, public agencies, and key members of each families' support system.
  • Assists administrative staff in collection of information for program effectiveness.
