About The Position

The recreational therapist will treat and rehabilitate individuals with specific health conditions, in conjunction or collaboration with physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy and child life specialists.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an approved program with a Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or Psychology, or in recreation with a concentration in therapeutic recreation.
  • Must be certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
  • Registration and certification by professional board. Renewed annually.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Three (3) years’ rehabilitation experience.
  • Graduate therapist accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients on the basis of information from standardized assessments, observations, medical records, medical staff, the patient’s family and the patient themselves.
  • Develops and carries out therapeutic interventions consistent with the patient’s needs and interest.
  • Provides recreational therapy activities to patients that will help enhance their lifestyles through improved social skills, physical skills, cognitive skills, and/or emotional values.
  • Assists in preparing and recommending therapeutic recreation, leisure education, and diversionary recreational activities for individual patients, group activities and unit activities.
  • Supervises therapeutic exercises, leisure education, and recreational activities.
  • Writes, implements, and provides documentation of individual patient’s treatment; maintain records to comply with Baptist Health requirements and writes reports indicative of progress or regression.
  • Evaluates community resources for assistance in meeting patient needs, and maintains a flexible working schedule that may include evenings and weekends to facilitate the development, restoration and maintenance of sound mental, emotional and physical health of patients through therapeutic activities.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
