About The Position

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#130160) at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Theatre History / Historiography. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.

Requirements

• A terminal degree in theatre or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
• To successfully apply, applicants must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and statement of research or creative activities (as appropriate to the discipline) as separate attachments at the time of application.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment is required before employment (Immigration Control Act of 1986).
• This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you will be required to provide information about your criminal history to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory and advanced courses in theatre history and historiography, as well as other departmental courses such as Introduction to Theatre.
• Ability to instruct on topics including world theatre, ethnicity or race in theatre, African-American theatre history, theatre for social change, dramaturgy, and other specialties.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
• Provide leadership within a large liberal arts training program with approximately 140 undergraduate majors.
• Engage in ongoing professional creative activity and scholarship.
• Opportunity to direct one or more shows in the co-curricular season.
