About The Position

The test proctor is responsible for all aspects of test administration, preparation of testing materials, and proctoring for students with disabilities. Requires a high degree of sensitivity to the needs, privacy, language and issues relevant to individuals seeking disability services and an understanding of the necessity for protecting the integrity of exams.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of related office experience.
  • Must project a positive, professional demeanor with outstanding customer service orientation.
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail, thoroughness and follow-through in completing tasks.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills required to receive and respond to inquiries.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills refined listening ability, discretion, tact and judgment are required in dealing with a range of situations which may involve complex, sensitive and private issues.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft programs (including Outlook, Word), electronic mail, and internet software.
  • Ability and willingness to learn about assistive technology that may be used by students with disabilities is essential.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and work independently while exercising initiative and strong problem resolution skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or some college coursework.
  • Previous experience working in a college or university setting, particularly within disability services, student affairs, or academic testing centers.
  • A foundational understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as they pertain to academic accommodations in higher education.
  • Prior experience with or exposure to specific assistive technologies such as screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA), or speech-to-text software (e.g., Dragon NaturallySpeaking).
  • Proven ability to remain calm and utilize de-escalation techniques when interacting with students experiencing high levels of testing anxiety or during difficult situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and an understanding of the barriers faced by neurodivergent students and individuals with physical or mental health disabilities.
  • Background in providing clerical or administrative support in a fast-paced office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the Testing Center front desk and serve as the primary proctor during exams.
  • Register student upon arrival and verify accommodations. Services are to be provided in a manner that is sensitive to many factors (ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, religion, etc.) and to students presenting with a wide variety of concerns and/or disabilities.
  • Schedule exams for students with testing accommodations, including processing and receiving exams from faculty, taking all necessary steps to protect the integrity of the exams, assuring that students only have allowed materials with them when beginning exam, monitoring the testing area, the timing of all exams, and enforce end-of-testing procedures.
  • Maintain academic integrity by monitoring video cameras on computer screens and securing exam materials. Report suspected irregularities during testing to the manager.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and instructors for exam-related questions. Follow instructors’ specific exam instructions precisely. Deliver completed exams to instructors promptly.
  • Serve as a reader or scribe for students as needed.
  • Use the online data management system (Titanium) to track attendance and exam details.
  • Assist with scheduling and logistics of exam administration when required.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitization and safety guidelines.
  • Refer students with accommodation questions to Disability Resources staff.
  • Provide administrative support to the Disability Resources Coordinator, Manager, and others in the department as needed.
  • Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
