About The Position

Join Trane Technologies as a 2nd Shift Test/Tech Support Engineer. In this role, you will operate innovative engineered systems and develop, coordinate, and implement sustainable manufacturing production processes. Your cross-functional team will be focused on delivering quality, safety, and operational efficiency improvements. The Manufacturing Engineering Run Test Technician is responsible for ongoing support of Testers in the Grand Rapids facility. This includes maintaining communication with plants, resolving tester and product issues, liaising with various teams, supporting upgrades, and developing knowledge of HVAC systems and components. The candidate must have the technical expertise to develop and lead tester design projects, supervise product validation testing, drive to root cause for quality and reliability issues, interpret technical agency standards, and conduct projects in accordance with standard engineering practices. Success in this role will be achieved by developing strong working relationships with plant personnel and internal engineering organizations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong interest in HVAC applications and operating conditions for refrigeration equipment.
  • Strong interest in Manufacturing Plant Systems and Processes in support of Universal Testers.
  • Competency in Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Competency in Test Systems and SCADA applications.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical expertise to develop and lead tester design projects.
  • Ability to supervise product validation testing.
  • Ability to drive to root cause for quality and reliability issues.

  • Associate degree in HVAC, Electrical or a 2-year equivalent degree program at an accredited school.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for any Test-related issues with the Production team.
  • Resolve Universal Tester-related issues with current testers.
  • Escalate issues to team leadership.
  • Identify plant issues and drive/support resolution with UT Engineers.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to tester-related processes.
  • Support Test Engineers for product changes.
  • Coordinate with Tester Engineering on schematics, system diagrams, and test sequence changes.
  • Provide support beyond normal working hours as required.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with plants to ensure that tester and product issues are identified, prioritized, and resolved through coordination with the System, Software, IT, and Plant teams.
  • Take on a technical role in resolving issues related to Universal Testers and product, liaising with key cross-functional roles.
  • Work with UT Team for updating tester requirements, design, validation, and verification documentation as part of the resolution process.
  • Support the implementation of upgrades and improvements to existing testers.
  • Communicate with plant and product development team members to ensure tester requirements are properly identified and met.
  • Assist in the development of tester improvements and upgrades by creating design documentation, including system diagrams, schematics, test sequences, and validation and verification plans.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities to support plant customers, including process and technical enhancements.
  • Develop knowledge of key HVAC systems and components that need to be tested, including Trane controls, electro-mechanical power components, electrical wiring, transformers, circuit breakers, contactors, overloads, variable frequency drives, solid-state starters, wye-delta starters, compressors, evaporators, condensers, indoor fans, outdoor fans, gas heat, electric heat, and proprietary components.
