About The Position

As a Test IT Systems Engineer II at Impulse, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining the IT and network infrastructure that enables hardware testing, data acquisition, and engineering operations across test facilities. This role bridges enterprise IT standards with specialized test-environment requirements, ensuring test systems operate reliably while remaining aligned with company security, infrastructure, and operational practices. The position is highly hands-on and combines systems engineering, networking, infrastructure deployment, and operational support within laboratory and propulsion test environments. This position is part of the Information Technology organization and operates under IT engineering standards, governance, and leadership. The role is embedded within Test operations to provide dedicated infrastructure support and close collaboration with Test Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience supporting infrastructure, systems engineering, or laboratory/test environments.
  • Demonstrated networking expertise including switching, routing, VLANs, subnetting, and network troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and supporting IEEE-1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) environments , including synchronization troubleshooting and clock architecture design.
  • Experience deploying physical infrastructure including racks, structured cabling, fiber optics, and facility network buildouts.
  • Experience administering Linux and/or Windows systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot across hardware, network, and systems layers.
  • Cisco networking experience required , including enterprise switch configuration and troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

  • Cisco CCNA certification required; CCNP certification or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, manufacturing, or hardware test environments.
  • Familiarity with deterministic or time-sensitive networking.
  • Experience with VMware or similar virtualization platforms.
  • Experience supporting AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Infrastructure automation or configuration management experience.
  • Understanding of secure architecture principles and regulated environments (e.g., NIST-aligned environments).
  • Strong technical documentation and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Test Infrastructure & Facility Engineering Design, deploy, and maintain IT infrastructure supporting test facilities, including MDF/IDF architecture, rack layouts, structured cabling, fiber distribution, and equipment installation.
  • Plan and execute physical network deployments including pathways, patch panels, labeling standards, and capacity planning.
  • Support new test stand and facility bring-ups, relocations, and infrastructure expansions.
  • Maintain accurate physical and logical documentation, diagrams, and asset records.
  • Networking & Timing Systems Configure and support test networks including switching, routing, VLANs, segmentation, and IP address management.
  • Deploy and maintain deterministic networking environments supporting engineering and data acquisition systems.
  • Implement and troubleshoot IEEE-1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) environments, including clock hierarchy, boundary and transparent clocks, and synchronization validation.
  • Diagnose latency, packet loss, and timing issues impacting test execution and telemetry systems.
  • Systems & Platform Engineering Deploy and maintain servers, storage platforms, and endpoint systems supporting test operations.
  • Support virtualization platforms and hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Implement backup and recovery solutions to ensure availability and protection of engineering and test data.
  • Support automation and infrastructure-as-code approaches where appropriate.
  • Operational Support for Test Engineering Partner directly with Test and Controls Engineering teams to enable reliable connectivity for data acquisition and control systems.
  • Provide escalation-level troubleshooting beyond standard service desk support.
  • Support system commissioning, troubleshooting during live testing, and rapid issue resolution.
  • Security & Compliance Alignment Ensure test infrastructure aligns with enterprise IT and Information Security standards.
  • Implement access controls, privileged access practices, and network segmentation aligned with zero-trust principles.
  • Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives within regulated engineering environments.
  • Assist with maintaining infrastructure controls aligned with organizational security policies and ISMS practices.
  • Collaboration & Governance Work closely with IT leadership to align test environments with enterprise architecture and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Coordinate vendors and contractors performing infrastructure deployments.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies and improvements that increase reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
