About The Position

The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (CBE) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for open-rank tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of biomanufacturing, pharmaceutical engineering, and clean energy and sustainability. These positions align with the School of Engineering's (SOE) strategic priority areas in Healthcare Technology and Innovations in Energy. CBE seeks outstanding scholars whose research and teaching will strengthen these areas and complement the department's established research thrusts in biotechnology and biomolecular engineering, pharmaceutical engineering, clean energy and sustainability, soft matter and advanced materials, and computing and data science. Candidates with demonstrated experience or a strong interest in industry collaboration are especially encouraged to apply. Biomanufacturing and Pharmaceutical Engineering Areas of particular interest include: Biomanufacturing of bioproducts, biologics, cell and gene therapies, and/or vaccines Chemical synthesis and manufacturing of pharmaceutical drugs and products AI/ML and data science applications for bio/pharmaceuticals design, discovery, process development, scale-up, and manufacturing Self-driving labs and automation for advanced manufacturing of bio/pharmaceuticals Clean Energy and Sustainability Areas of particular interest include: Carbon circularity and industrial decarbonization Waste upcycling and sustainable materials synthesis Critical minerals and materials recovery using biological and non-biological approaches Electrified processes for sustainable and energy-efficient manufacturing Bio/polymeric materials synthesis, modeling, and characterization Computational modeling, AI/ML & data sciences for advanced materials discovery and process development The School of Engineering (SOE) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick has launched a strategic faculty hiring initiative to strengthen research, teaching, and innovation across its seven academic departments and 10 engineering majors. This initiative aims to recruit exceptional scholars whose expertise advances one or more of SOE's priority areas: Physical and Virtual Infrastructure, Healthcare Technology, Innovations in Energy, Defense and National Security, and Experiential Learning and Professional Education. Appointments may be made within one or more departments based on the candidate's expertise and interests. While most positions are expected to be at the assistant professor level, consideration will also be given to more senior-level appointments. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering enrolls more than 210 undergraduate and 110 graduate students and includes 20 tenure-track faculty and one full-time teaching professor. Located in central New Jersey, the department is situated in the heart of one of the nation's most active industrial and pharmaceutical corridors, offering proximity to globally established pharmaceutical companies, emerging biotechnology firms, and advanced manufacturing industries. Faculty and students have access to outstanding research facilities and collaborative opportunities through numerous centers and institutes on campus, including the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine (IQB), Rutgers Climate & Energy Institute (RCEI), Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems (CSOPS), Catalyst Manufacturing Center, Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), and the RCSB Protein Data Bank. Rutgers Engineering faculty also benefit from extensive High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources to support research and teaching.
