About The Position

RISD Continuing Education seeks an Summer Facilities Assistant that supports the daily operations of the Summer Programs by providing logistical, facilities, and setup assistance across campus. This role is ideal for someone reliable, hands-on, and comfortable with physical tasks. The assistant helps with moving materials, preparing classrooms and event spaces, collaborating with facilities and exhibitions teams, and providing coverage in supervised program areas when needed to ensure smooth program operations. The successful candidate will thrive in a campus environment that is committed to advancing the principles of social equity and inclusion, environmental and climate justice, and equal access to resources and opportunities. Term: June 1 - August 14, 2026

Requirements

  • Experience and comfort working with programs requiring physical labor
  • Must be innovative and solution-oriented, able to work independently and as a part of a highly collaborative team.
  • Communicative and able to relay information between program staff, instructors, and campus partners
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population of students, instructors, and staff.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and broad cultural experiences and personal warmth are essential.
  • Able to move heavy items and walk around various buildings across campus and up and down hills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a campus runner to deliver materials, supplies, and equipment to classrooms, studios, and offices.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of classrooms, studios, orientation areas, events, and exhibitions.
  • Move, transport, and organize furniture, boxes, easels, model stands, exhibition walls, and other materials, including heavy or bulky items.
  • Collaborate with campus departments such as Facilities, Campus Exhibitions, and Continuing Education to support operational needs.
  • Help with small-scale maintenance or creative setup projects, such as hanging signage, painting, or mounting displays.
  • Provide temporary coverage in classrooms or program areas where a second adult is required, including filling in when Teaching Assistants or staff are absent.
  • Respond promptly to requests from Summer programs leadership to address immediate logistical or facilities needs.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and team-oriented attitude when working with students, staff, and faculty.
