About The Position

The Walker Art Center empowers people to experience the transformative possibilities of the art and ideas of our time and to imagine the world in new ways. In our over 125-year history, we have become one of the most celebrated art museums in the country and we are known for our innovative presentations and acclaimed collections of contemporary art across the spectrum of the visual, performing, and media arts. This role supports community engagement programs, events, and partnerships across the Twin Cities, including assisting with the planning and execution of offsite events, artist residencies, and community-based programs. The position works closely with the Public Engagement team to support logistics, communications, and internal systems, helping ensure programs are well-coordinated and effectively delivered.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience supporting public programs or community engagement
  • One (1) year of administrative or project management experience
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and multitasking skills
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Positive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to travel between offsite locations in the Twin Cities as required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CRM or project management tools is a plus
  • Familiarity with Twin Cities communities and cultural organizations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing agendas/slides, taking notes, and tracking action items
  • Help plan and support events, including setup details, run-of-show documents, and layouts
  • Coordinate contracts, documentation, and payments for artists and collaborators
  • Arrange travel and itineraries for guests, speakers, and staff
  • Support catering and hospitality for meetings and events
  • Track expenses, receipts, and basic budget information
  • Order supplies and prepare event materials
  • Provide post-event notes, surveys, and basic reporting
  • Work with Marketing and Communications to share event information
  • Coordinate with Visitor Experience and front-of-house staff
  • Help prepare for and support team-wide meetings
  • Assist with outreach and communication with community partners and advisory groups
  • Help build and maintain relationships with local organizations and artists
  • Support community presence at events and offsite programs
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure programs are welcoming and accessible
