About The Position

The City of Ellensburg is accepting applications for temporary laborer to fill several vacancies. Employees in this classification perform various tasks related to the respective division duties and will be performed under the direction of the division foreperson. Employment will be 40 hours per week and will vary from a few weeks up to six months and is contingent upon satisfactory performance of assigned duties. Some of the positions that begin in street may be transferred into the water division. Parks Maintenance positions will be required to work on weekends. These are temporary, non-benefited positions except for earning paid sick leave at a rate of one (1) hour for every paid forty (40) hours worked. Employees are eligible to begin using accrued paid sick leave on the ninetieth (90th) calendar day after the commencement of his/her employment. Positions are eligible for membership under the Washington State Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). First review of applications will be February 25, 2026, and anticipated start date for several of the positions will be the first part of March. This is not the posting for our temporary student laborer positions. Therefore, please do not apply with this posting if you are interested in the student positions. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and insurable driving record
  • Experience with motorized vehicles and equipment including but not limited to cars, pickup truck, utility truck, small tractors, asphalt roller, plate compactor, chainsaw, airless paint machine, weed cutter, common hand and power tools

Nice To Haves

  • Current flagger and first aid certification desirable
