Temporary Faculty Pool Department of History College of Arts and Humanities Position Description The Department of History in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized, applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments. For more information: History The Position The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in the discipline of History, or ABD and currently enrolled in a History Ph.D. program.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to diversity and the ability to employ a range of pedagogies to teach effectively undergraduates from a range of age groups, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
  • In accordance with the California State University (CSU) Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is a state entity whose business operations reside within the State of California and prohibits hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside of California.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D. in hand and those with prior teaching experience at the college or university level who can furnish evidence of good performance.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned lower-division and/or upper-division courses in the department’s curriculum and provide weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
  • In AY 25//26, the department may need additional faculty to teach the following courses: HIS 101: United States History HIS 120: World History I, to 1500 HIS 121: World History II, 1500-present HIS 376: Film as History
