Temporary Faculty Pool Department of Political Science College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences Position Description The Department of Political Science at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments. Over 30 courses cover all the major aspects of the discipline. Students develop an understanding of human behavior as it relates to politics. They learn to discuss and analyze critically current public policy issues facing the United States and the world. They are taught how to critically observe and understand world affairs and comparative politics. They are trained in appropriate research techniques for the study of political processes. The General Political Science Concentration is a relatively "open" one, allowing students to choose from a wide range of courses and subjects within a general framework. It is designed for students seeking broad exposure to the diverse subjects of the discipline. For more information: https://www.csudh.edu/political-science/ The Position The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
  • Employees at California State University, Dominguez Hills shall abide by the Nondiscrimination Statement.
  • The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 , revised December 24, 2021, as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in Political Science or related discipline and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experience.
  • A Ph.D. in Political Science or related discipline and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned upper division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
