About The Position

Cornell University is widely admired as one of the world’s most respected research and teaching institutions. The Department of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) provides comprehensive programs and services to support healthy, safe, and environmentally responsible practices for our world class faculty, staff, students and university community. EHS assists the campus community with compliance and promotes health, safety, and environmental stewardship. Under the supervision of the Account Representative and Office Lead the temporary administrative assistant will perform general administrative duties for the department such as calendaring, document management, answering phones, pick-up and drop-off of documents/items, mail sorting, data entry, and event planning and assistance. In addition, more specialized tasks include providing administrative support for our ticketing system, accounts payable, entering training completions in Workday Learning, following the procurement process, assistance with Concur travel system, scheduling car repairs, set-up of workstations, and assisting with onboarding and off-boarding items. This position is a temporary, non- benefits eligible position for 39 hrs/week. The pay rate is $24.00/hour. This role is expected to last for approximately 4.5 months. Facilities and Campus Services employees are required to attend staff development training and participate in the performance evaluation process.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma with at least 2-4 years of relevant office experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of office experience in a compliance-related environment
  • 1-year minimum document management experience
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and demonstrate sound organizational, and high level of interpersonal skills and able to work and maintain confidential material
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written to communicate with university faculty, staff, students and outside agencies and organizations
  • Must possess strong computer skills with various business software packages (Microsoft Office Suite and applications)
  • Ability to interact tactfully with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a pro-active team member.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional atmosphere in a busy office setting while meeting competing deadlines, managing routine interruptions, and paying close attention to details.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver's license and good driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in business or related field with 4 years of high-level administrative assistant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and systems
  • Familiarity with Cornell systems and processes such as Kuali, e-Shop, Workday Learning, Sharepoint, TeamDynamix, Concur Travel System, Procurement Card Transactions, RingCentral
