About The Position

The Organization Good Samaritan Family Resource Center (GSFRC) is an innovative multi-service non-profit agency located in San Francisco’s Mission District. Its mission is to help families access needed services, develop self-sufficiency, and participate fully as members of the community. Our staff is a diverse and talented team willing to take innovative and unique approaches to help children, youth and families thrive and succeed. Program Summary  GSFRC provides 6 summer programs serving K-5th, 6th-8th , and 9th-12th grade youth. Our Summer camps focus on summer learning, enrichments, recreation, and exploration field trips. With a strong focus in supporting youth with social emotional learning and development, we strive to build community, spark the interest of life-long learning, and provide introductions to a variety of activities and interests. Our camps operate for 6 to 8 weeks and offer a blend of academics, summer fun, and community exploration. 4 of our 6 camps are designed specifically to support Latinx Newcomer and EL youth specifically. Position Summary  The Summer Educational Leader provides up to 40 hours per week of in-person academic instruction, delivering 90–120 minutes of daily lessons utilizing curriculum set by Academic Advisors. This role supports student engagement and supervision during both academic and enrichment activities, including field trips and group programming. The Summer Educational Leader monitors student progress, provides regular updates, and participates in daily check-ins and weekly planning meetings. Working under Beacon leadership, this position helps maintain a structured, supportive learning environment while collaborating with staff and addressing program needs as they arise.

Requirements

  • Teaching Credential, issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
  • Must complete a full background check (Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index) after conditional offer is made.
  • Must have TB clearance 
  • Must complete and maintain current California Mandated Reporter Training certification, in compliance with California state law.

  • Experience with facilitating or leading youth age-appropriate activities
  • Experience working with African American and/or Latinx immigrant community populations

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct service, supervision, and support to the students during program
  • Operate as a dependable team member working cooperatively and collaboratively with fellow staff to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for students and fellow staff
  • Provide students with in‐person direct academic instruction, with a minimum dosage of90 minutes per day, and up to120 minutes per day, to be determined by the Academic Advisors.
  • Implement planned curriculum and in alignment with scope and sequence provided by the Academic Advisors responsible for curriculum.
  • Provide additional support to staff and student supervision by participating in non‐  academic activities and programming such as squad challenges, enrichment time, field trips etc.
  • Participate in weekly planning meetings with Academic Advisors and daily check in / check out with staff team and program managers, as needed.
  • Provide daily updates on student progress and participation in the academic instruction portion of the day
  • Participate in a consultation meeting with leadership to discuss needs, content and focus areas, group dynamics and desired outcomes to allow for adequate planning and preparation
  • Provide on‐going feedback
  • Share any problems or concerns as they arise
  • Maintain a safe, clean, positive, fun, and engaging environment 
  • Uphold and enforce all safety policies and procedures
  • Attend mandatory staff, supervision and other designated meetings
  • Maintain a predetermined work schedule
  • Perform some daily administrative support and operating tasks as assigned by the Program Manager
  • Chaperone and assist to facilitate field trips
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to promote, maintain, and contribute consistently to a positive work culture and team environment
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect in communication in all situations and with all stakeholders (participants, staff, parents, teachers, etc.)
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to a variety of student and programmatic needs
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
