About The Position

The Supervisor, Telecom position for Field Operations, Georgia Southwest within the Field Operations East & National department will have overall responsibility for approximately (8) Telecom Technicians and (1) Telecom Analyst geographically dispersed throughout the southwest territory of GA. The Field Operations (FO) southwest territory of GA consists of the following border counties and all areas contained within the perimeter of these counties: (clockwise) Troup, Meriweather, Pike, Lamar, Monroe, Jasper, Putnam, Baldwin, Wilkinson, Laurens, Dodge, Wilcox, Ben Hill, Irwin, Berrien, Lanier, Echols, Lowndes, Brooks, Thomas, Grady, Decatur, Seminole, Early, Clay, Quitman, Stewart, Chattahoochee, Muscogee, and Harris. The Supervisor provides leadership and influence through active participation in Field Operations activities and leverages business, technical, and consulting resources from across the organization (strategy, engineering, and operations) to ensure the timely delivery of effective business solutions. FO provides hands-on installation, maintenance, break-fix, and project support for Southern Company's voice, data, and telecommunications transport networks while also assisting various infrastructure groups with initiatives as needed in support of a broad infrastructure asset catalog and diverse Southern Company customer base.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in a business or technology-related field, or equivalent military training is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technology-related field is required.
  • Working knowledge of technology-related disciplines including voice, data, and telecommunications transport networks.
  • Working knowledge of our customers’ business functions, how their operations are performed within different organizations of Southern Company, how they are supported by Field Operations, and an understanding of how the Technology Organization and Field Operations adds value to these organizations.
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify business requirements, manage workforce resources for effective utilization, and seek ways to always be better tomorrow than today.
  • Relationship building skills that result in successful working relationships with customers, peers and business partners internal and external to Southern Company.

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a four-year degree or nearing completion of a four-year degree program in a business or technology-related field.
  • Candidates with a minimum of two years of formal people leadership experience within a business or technology related field will be considered in lieu of education requirements.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have telecommunications, field operations, or similar experience.

  • Comprehensive engagement with the geographically dispersed FO GA SW team including frequent on-site, face-to-face interactions in support of employees and their work.
  • Address development needs of employees by providing feedback, making skill building recommendations, and partnering with employees and resources to create opportunities for individual and team success.
  • Provide and accept feedback including coaching, performance management, and annual review processes for direct reports.
  • Develop, manage, and adhere to budget while monitoring variances and financial projections and ensuring billing requirements are met.
