About The Position

Camp Shady Brook Mission: To effect positive change in our community by creating opportunities in the outdoors for personal growth, leadership development and the building of relationships through exceptional camping experiences. POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Teen Leadership Director will lead the Counselor-in-Training Program as well as the Leadership Development Program for teen campers. This position will be responsible for developing future camp and community leaders through intentional programming. CERTIFICATIONS: Complete Hazardous Communications, Harassment Prevention, Blood-borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention training and attend Living Our Cause/Engaging our members at time of hire Maintain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer every year Maintain First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen every 2 years Blood-borne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience working in a youth camp setting.
  • Able to direct and supervise teenage campers
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead 2 four-week CIT programs and 2 two-week Leadership Development Programs as laid out in conjunction with the Associate Executive Director.
  • Live in assigned housing with program participants throughout the duration of their stay.
  • Complete camper evaluations and provide feedback as needed to campers to allow for personal and professional growth.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a curriculum/schedule for both the CIT and LDP programs in collaboration with the Associate Executive Director and Program Coordinator.
  • Prepare for, assist in leading, and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
  • Provide leadership and administrative support as directed by coordinating, organizing, or leading camp activities or by providing administrative office support as needed.
  • Direct programs that meet or exceed ACA and state standards.
  • Assume responsibility for the heath/welfare of campers and staff entrusted to his/her charge.
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
  • Observe camper and staff behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Consult with the Associate Executive Director daily concerning problems that need to be addressed and/or excellent camper or staff performance.
  • Evaluate current season and campers, make suggestions, and create a Teen Leadership Coordinator manual for the following season.
  • Will work stay over weekends as assigned.
  • To perform all other duties as needed or assigned.
