About The Position

Teen Camp Counselors will be assigned to a group (bunk) of teenage campers (7th-9th grade). Counselors will manage the daily routine and activities for their group. As a group leader and facilitator, Teen Camp Counselors are responsible for the day-to-day programming of the group, with support from the Youth & Teen Manager and JCamps administration. Teen Camp Counselors are responsible for building relationships with and engaging campers in their care and executing the programmatic goals of camp.

Requirements

  • Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Eligible candidates also must have graduated from High School or obtained a GED by the start of camp.
  • JCamps staff are required to pass all criminal history background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check.
  • They must also obtain a current CPR and First-Aid certification.
  • Teen Camp Counselors must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Teen Camp Counselors are based out of the Youth and Teen Office but will be expected to execute daily responsibilities throughout Shalom Austin’s campus and on offsite trips.
  • Due to the nature of the position, Teen Camp Counselors must be able to be on their feet for most of the day.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Teen Camp Counselors must have the ability to be outside and handle Austin summer heat.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with teenaged children (grades 7-9) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work together with the Youth & Teen Manager and co-counselor to facilitate programs and daily activities for Teen Camp
  • Counselors must always set a behavior example for campers.
  • Counselors must participate in all activities with campers
  • Counselors will be changed out in swimwear and in the swimming pool monitoring campers during all swim portions of the daily schedule
  • Counselors are responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their bunk and campers.
  • Counselors are responsible for ensuring that campers are using their phones only to enhance the camp programs, not as a substitute for activities.
  • Counselors will manage the bunk clipboard and in partnership with co-counselor complete written incident and accident reports, as necessary.
  • Drive Shalom Austin’s 15 passenger van to transport children to and from field trips.
