About The Position

Technology Support Assistant (Part-Time) Cooke County is hiring a Technology Support Assistant to provide hands-on IT support to County staff. This part-time, on-site role is perfect for someone looking to build their technical skills in a professional environment while helping local government operations run smoothly. You'll troubleshoot common IT issues, install and move equipment, and assist employees with basic hardware and software needs, perform software updates and troubleshoot computers brought in for maintenance. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working inside desktop computers, adding and changing components, so having built your own computer or familiarity with their internal components would be beneficial.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license (local travel during work hours required; County vehicle provided)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Must pass background check and fingerprinting
  • Ability to learn and use various computer systems and applications
  • Basic understanding of hardware like printers, monitors, and scanners
  • Ability to follow directions, manage time well, and stay organized
  • Professional appearance and demeanor (business casual dress required)

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in information technology or related field
  • Previous helpdesk or technical support experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft or CompTIA certifications
  • comfortable working inside desktop computers, adding and changing components, so having built your own computer or familiarity with their internal components would be beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming IT support calls and provide first-level troubleshooting
  • Use remote support tools to assist users
  • Route more complex issues to appropriate technicians
  • Unbox and prepare new computer equipment for deployment
  • Install, relocate, and document IT equipment (computers, monitors, printers, etc.)
  • Deliver and install toner for laser printers
  • Assist with daily IT operations, backups, and other tech-related tasks
  • Provide support for County devices and software including: Desktops, laptops, tablets, scanners, IP phones, mobile phones Microsoft Office, OneDrive, email, Adobe Acrobat, and other tools
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold County IT security protocols
  • Work professionally with all departments, including law enforcement and EMS
