About The Position

Works under the general supervision of the Distribution & Production Supervisor to achieve high quality results within the College’s brand standards. Retrieves PDF files from department MIS system, pre-flight, impose and prepare for printing. Handles digital submissions, formatting and file configuration to produce high quality output in digital print, large format, environmental graphics and specialty print. Works with the direction of the Distribution and Production Supervisor and Client Services and Distribution Specialist to schedule and produce work in a timely manner and meet deadlines. Uses MIS software for updating job status and managing appropriate inventory. Communicates and provides updates on job status to Distribution and Production Supervisor and Client Services and Distribution Specialist. Problem solves and makes recommendations to the digital production process to achieve quality results. Performs routine and specialized maintenance, calibrations and general upkeep set by the Distribution and Production Supervisor to the digital production equipment. Initiates service calls and maintain logs for all equipment under the direction of the Supervisor. Produces work that is compliant with the college’s Graphic Standards. Remediates for quality assurance and maintains QA records. Scans and converts documents to PDF format for distribution, archiving and publishing. Produces print work that is timely, accurate and prepared for bindery and finishing. Tracks paper inventory and necessary supplies for digital presses and reports to Distribution and Production Supervisor for ordering. Restocks and maintains storage/inventory room. Maintains safe, clean, professional and efficient printing area of operation.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in graphic design, printing or related field required or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in graphic arts and print production.
  • Extensive experience in appropriate software and production capabilities.
  • Familiar with current version of Adobe Creative Suite, other graphic arts software, prepress and variable data printing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Must have thorough understanding of Macintosh Operating System and competence in Windows PC Operating System.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing to operate college vehicles including, vans, carts, forklifts and other vehicles as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and prepares files for production.
  • Pre-flights digital files, checking for accuracy, printability and adherence to college standards.
  • Operates and maintains digital presses, large format and specialty printers to produce high quality output and graphics that are ready for bindery, finishing and/or installation.
  • Delivery and distribution of finished materials, mail and other packages across the college campus.
  • Meet or exceed client/project expectations.

  • Picks up and delivers mail and bulk mail supplies from Palatine Post Office.
  • Empties mail sacks and sorts incoming mail and interoffice mail for distribution.
  • Sorts incoming and interoffice mail in departmental boxes for distribution.
  • Maintains mail van and Mail Center dock area for safe, clean, professional and efficient operation.
  • Operates the postage metering machine.
  • Routinely handles confidential information (class rosters, grades, tests).
  • Providing direction and mentoring for student or part-time workers.
  • Assists with boxing, wrapping and delivery.
  • Successfully completes selection of annual certifications to maintain cutting-edge knowledge of current and future technologies and requirements.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
