About The Position

The Tooling Technician utilizes computer-aided engineering (CAD/CAE) software tools to support the design and build of tooling for the weld department, for hand welding and robot welding. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Design Engineering along with Weld and Process groups to design, build, and refine fixtures that optimize workflow, ensure weldment accuracy, and improve operator ergonomics. Work Location: This role will be based at the Orrville, OH. Fully remote is not available at this time. This role will require 5-days on site.

Requirements

  • Prior understanding precision tooling, from CAD design and engineering to hands-on weld fabrication.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3-5 years’ Mig welding experience.
  • Understand of basic 3D CAD software design with an understanding of geometry basics in welding and fabrication.
  • Base-level proficiency in MIG welding; ability to follow a weld procedure to join components accurately.
  • Strong "hands-on" skills with a natural ability to understand how mechanical parts fit together.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, shop drawings, and technical instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years in tooling design or hands on building of tooling and fixtures.
  • Capable and accomplished in designing in engineering CAD design system software (e.g., Solid Edge, Solid Works, Creo)

Responsibilities

  • Use CAD software to design tooling for legacy weldments that have become unusable or require updating.
  • Partner with weld and process groups to upgrade current tooling, specifically focusing on increasing throughput and improving operator ergonomics.
  • High attention to detail, understanding the why’s and how’s of the weldments.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to design tooling for upcoming product launches.
  • Enter fixtures and parts into company network for ordering and processing.
  • Hands-on building and welding of fixtures, ensuring they meet precise tolerances to produce high-quality assembly-ready weldments.
  • Work with the team with adaptability and judgment for enhanced fixtures for quality and durability.
  • Able to work with flexibility both in design and functionality.
  • Develop, present, and execute multi-generational product plan for autonomous and electrification programs in order to accomplish relevant product line, departmental, and divisional objectives.
  • Coordinate and execute voice of the customer activities and other market research required to fully understand future technologies.
  • Utilize learnings to create product recommendations and collaborate with broader marketing team on go-to-market strategy and plan.
  • Participate in enterprise-wide specialization groups, product development, and continuous improvement team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Partner with product managers to lead tech-focused product projects through key project stage gates.
  • Assist with the ongoing management and evolution of existing technologies in use across the product portfolio.
  • Plan and deliver technology related sales training, including participation in live training events and recorded webinars.
  • Work closely and collaborate with peer divisions within TTC on developing and executing joint strategies.
  • Monitor competitive environment and develop and contribute data to create competitive technology related comparisons for use in training the L&C and distributor sales teams.
  • Partner with and integrate outside vendors to bring new technology products to market.
  • Collaborate with internal groups and systems to integrate purchase finished goods into TTC systems.
  • Support industry trade shows, customer experience events, and other key activities.

  • Competitive Salary – A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $25.00-$30.00/hour. Salary will be determined by experience and qualifications.
