About The Position

The Technician 7 assists in the management of Mechanical Systems PM for the district. This technician must be knowledgeable in all aspects of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and capital improvements of all HVAC and boiler systems used within the district. The Technician 7 must be capable of providing leadership and guidance to shop personnel as needed to promote quality performance and effective productivity. Knowledge of the various types of DDC control software, as well as the operation and installation of DDC devices used in Building Automation is a must.

Requirements

  • Strong HVAC and computer skills are essential for this position.
  • Must have knowledge of DDC control systems software and Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment including air handling units, rooftop units, boilers, pumps, exhaust systems, and associated controls.
  • Ability to train and mentor technicians in proper preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Time management and the ability to plan and organize are essential.
  • Must stay current with all federal, state, and city guidelines and codes.
  • A minimum of a journeyman’s mechanical license and refrigerant certification is required and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
  • A valid Kansas driver’s license is required throughout employment in the district.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of HVAC experience required
  • Mechanical Journeyman License required
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License required

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory or lead experience preferred
  • Experience with Direct Digital Controls preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation and management of Mechanical Systems Preventative Maintenance at all district sites.
  • Perform daily assignment of work, prioritize tasks, allocate resources and assign manpower where needed.
  • Assist the department supervisor with training district personnel in the operation, installation and service of HVAC and boiler systems used throughout the district.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Systems, Design and Construction, and Energy Management departments to ensure that the standards for indoor air quality, comfort, and energy savings are maintained.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Mechanical Systems PM and Building Automation shops for the integration of DDC control systems with the various HVAC systems throughout the district.
  • Provide project management to ensure vendors and contractors meet district standards and expectations.
  • Ensure that jobs are scheduled, and materials are ordered in a timely manner, and that the work is coordinated appropriately to meet completion dates.
  • Assist in performing proper preventative maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Is responsible for turning in all invoices, work orders and any other paperwork daily to the Mechanical Systems PM office.
  • Serve as the primary consultant for all Mechanical Systems PM personnel to assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and finding effective solutions for all HVAC-related problems.
  • Quickly recognize and resolve inter-departmental conflicts and discord.
  • Conduct daily activities in a professional manner and represent the district in a positive light.
  • Monitor the performance of all the department’s employees in the field and provide coaching as needed to maximize labor efficiency and quality of work.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or as required by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor of Mechanical Systems.
