About The Position

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating highly technical content in the authoring, editing, and publishing of RHC Technical Publications, including pilot and maintenance documentation. RHC Technical Publications provides critical information to Robinson Helicopter owners, operators, and maintenance personnel to ensure the airworthiness of our aircraft and the safety of the flying public. Because of this, RHC Technical Publications functions as one of the primary points of technical communication with our customers around the world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or equivalent, or demonstrated excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical background.
  • Proficient with technology such as Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, TurboCAD, and SolidWorks.
  • Self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with strong project management, organization, and risk management skills.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others.

Nice To Haves

  • FAA Mechanic certificate with Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) ratings.
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience developing publications for aircraft such as maintenance manuals, flight manuals, or other technical data.

Responsibilities

  • Create or revise technical publications content based on: Engineering document releases include engineering blueprints, process specifications, and SBs, SLs, and KIs.
  • Vendor and OEM drawings, STCs, and installation or maintenance manuals, when applicable.
  • Recommend changes from the field.
  • Review RHC Technical Publications for clarity of presentation, accuracy, standardization between documents, and the proper treatment of legacy design.
  • Consult with subject matter experts, including Engineers, Technical Support Representatives, and shop technicians to ensure the quality and accuracy of publications.
  • Author, edit, publish, and archive pilot and/or maintenance documents as required using SAs, SNs, SLs, SBs, POHs (and optional equipment and foreign supplements), MMs, IPCs, and KIs.
  • Prepare Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICAs) in accordance with 14 CFR Part 27 Appendix A and FAA Order 8110.54A.
  • Physically witness the performance of maintenance procedures to validate operations and sequencing in written instructions.
  • Log all work, research, and status in Jira project management software.
  • Suggest improvements to processes at tools to improve the effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of the work.
