DESE Research, Inc. is seeking a Technical Writer to support Department of Defense (DoD) programs by developing, updating, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation for Army systems. The selected candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team supporting engineering, testing, logistics, and fielded systems, ensuring documentation accuracy, compliance with military standards, and alignment with customer requirements. This position supports programs involving hardware and software integration, system upgrades, prototype development, and lifecycle sustainment activities for small- and medium-sized Army systems. Create, update, and maintain technical documentation including operator manuals, maintenance manuals, plans, procedures, and related publications for Department of Defense systems. Coordinate and conduct peer reviews of draft documentation; address comments and incorporate redlines. Support formal testing, validation, and verification events by capturing documentation changes, maintaining redlines, and coordinating updates with project teams and external stakeholders. Create, edit, and manipulate graphics for use in technical documentation using tools such as Microsoft Visio, Adobe Acrobat DC, Adobe Illustrator, or similar applications. Use 2D engineering drawings to locate parts or components by drawing number, part number, or find number; extract and adapt graphics for documentation use. Inspect and operate systems, or work alongside technicians, to troubleshoot, disassemble, and reassemble systems in order to develop accurate written procedures. Document systems and subsystems that may include mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, software, engine, fuel, cooling, and body components. Establish and maintain liaison with personnel in other organizations to identify and report issues with newly released data type descriptions or style sheets, and track issue resolution. Develop proficiency with structured document authoring and publishing tools, including UltraEdit, PTC Arbortext® Editor™, PTC Arbortext® Styler™, and Interactive Authoring and Display Software (IADS). Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and customers to ensure a shared understanding of requirements, schedules, risks, and action items. Willingly cross-train into other disciplines within the team as required.
