About The Position

Centurion is proud to be a leading provider of comprehensive healthcare services to correctional facilities, state hospitals, and community mental health centers nationwide. We are currently seeking a full- time Technical Writer to join our Corporate IT team located in Sterling, VA. The Technical Writer is a cross functional role working with engineering, operations, product, and support teams on multiple concurrent projects to create and maintain clear, accurate documentation for internal users, customers, and partners in a modern Microsoft/Azure environment. This role will collaborate with subject matter experts and translate complex technical concepts into concise content for varied audiences. Research, outline, write, and edit technical content (how to guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), administration runbooks, FAQs, and release notes) for internal and external audiences. Gather information from engineers, analysts, and product owners to develop and organize procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation. Maintain and improve documentation sets in tools such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, wikis, and Markdown-based repositories, ensuring version control and traceability. Standardize documentation using templates, information architecture, and style guides aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements (e.g., healthcare or public sector standards). Update and refactor existing content to improve clarity, consistency, discoverability, and usability, retiring or consolidating outdated artifacts. Partner with UX, training, and support teams to produce UI text, quick-start guides, and job aids that reduce support burden and enable self-service. Incorporate visuals (screenshots, diagrams, flowcharts) that accurately represent workflows, integrations, and technical architectures. Collect feedback from users, monitor documentation usage, and make iterative improvements based on analytics and stakeholder input. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Communications, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a technical writer or similar role (e.g., documentation specialist, knowledge manager) producing software, IT, or process documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex systems and translate them into clear, concise documentation for technical and non technical audiences.
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and information organization skills, with strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • Experience working directly with engineers, admins, or product teams in an IT, SaaS, or enterprise environment (e.g., cloud, security, or healthcare IT).
  • Comfort using Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), SharePoint, and collaboration tools (Teams, Confluence, Git-based repositories) for authoring and review workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience documenting Microsoft 365, Azure, or other cloud platforms, including admin processes, configuration patterns, and governance standard is preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare, public sector, or regulated environments, including basic understanding of compliance and privacy considerations in documentation is preferred.
  • Exposure to scripting or markup (Markdown, YAML, JSON, or basic PowerShell) sufficient to read examples and describe workflows accurately is preferred.
  • Experience with diagramming tools (Visio, Draw.io) and ticket/knowledge platforms (ServiceNow, Jira, or similar) is preferred.
  • Portfolio of writing samples (e.g., procedures, user guides, knowledge base articles) demonstrating clarity, structure, and audience awareness is preferred.
