The Technical Writer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing technical and procedural documentation supporting IT operations, systems, and processes. This role works closely with technical staff and subject matter experts to ensure documentation is accurate, current, and aligned with organizational standards and requirements. The Technical Writer operates independently on assigned tasks and supports documentation consistency and process clarity across multiple functional areas.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of professional technical writing experience
  • Proven ability to write clear, structured documentation for technical audiences
  • Experience working with engineers and technical stakeholders
  • Strong editing, grammar, and information-design skills
  • Familiarity with version control systems and content review workflows
  • Ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in related field preferred (not required)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain technical procedures, work instructions, and process documentation supporting IT operations and services
  • Collaborate with engineers, system administrators, cybersecurity staff, and other subject matter experts to gather and validate technical information
  • Translate complex technical and operational processes into clear, structured, and usable documentation for internal audiences
  • Ensure documentation complies with organizational instructions, formatting standards, and review/approval requirements
  • Maintain documentation repositories, including version control, document tracking, and approval status
  • Update documentation in response to process changes, system updates, audits, or operational findings
  • Edit and standardize documentation authored by SMEs to ensure clarity, consistency, and completeness
  • Develop and maintain documentation templates, checklists, and standard formats to support consistency across teams
  • Support reviews, walkthroughs, and audits by ensuring documentation is complete and accessible
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to manage document reviews, comments, and approvals through established workflows and tools
  • Use Microsoft Excel or similar tools to support document tracking and organization efforts
  • An active Secret Security Clearance must be obtained upon hire.
