About The Position

OnDefend is seeking a Technical Writer to support the PMO across a growing portfolio of technical and security initiatives. This role works directly with security testers and consultants, including Red Team and Application Penetration Testers, to transform validated assessment outputs into clear, accurate, and consistent documentation and client facing deliverables. The Technical Writer partners closely with testers and Technical Project Managers (TPMs) and technical subject matter experts to ensure technical findings, summaries, and reports are well-structured, audience-appropriate, and ready for delivery on time. The Technical Writer may also support documentation for internally developed tools and processes. As the organization grows, this role may be utilized across multiple testing programs and other technical projects, supporting the strongest possible quality deliverables at scale.

Requirements

3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting technical, engineering, or security teams.
Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured documentation for complex technical subjects.
Experience collaborating directly with technical practitioners (e.g., penetration testers, red team operators, application security engineers).
Strong command of written English with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to quickly learn new technical concepts and ask effective clarifying questions.
Experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
Background in technical editing, report QA, or documentation standardization.
Proficiency with documentation and collaboration tools, including: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint Collaboration platforms such as MS Teams and Outlook Comfortable learning new tools and applications.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting penetration testing, Red Team, or Application Security reporting workflows.
Familiarity with markdown formatting and git version control
Familiarity with security concepts and frameworks such as OWASP, MITRE ATT&CK, and CVSS.
Experience working alongside TPMs, within a PMO, and/or in a service delivery organization.
Certifications or training in technical communication or security (nice to have).
Experience with implementing and providing service for supporting IT systems

Responsibilities

Collaboration with Testers & Delivery Teams Work directly with Red Team and Application penetration testers to understand assessment scope, methodology, and validated findings.
Participate in establishing documentation standards and creating templates to support efficient workflows.
Ask clarifying questions and validate assumptions while respecting tester ownership of technical analysis.
Ensure tester-provided content aligns with internal reporting standards, tone, and structure.
Provide regular metrics tracking the quality of client deliverables.
Help convert tester-authored notes, findings, and evidence into polished, client-ready documentation with the support of additional technical SMEs.
Technical & Security Documentation Produce, edit, and maintain technical documentation and technical deliverable reports across a variety of projects.
Translate complex technical concepts (e.g., attack paths, vulnerabilities, architectural risks) into clear, structured written content.
Tailor documentation for multiple audiences, including executives, developers, security teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
Support creation of executive summaries, technical narratives, and remediation guidance.
Create charts and other illustrative visual aids to support executive stakeholder understanding.
Help create brief presentations summarizing report results for executive audiences.
Report Quality & Standardization Provide quality assurance for technical and security reports, ensuring clarity, consistency, and completeness.
Maintain and enhance documentation templates, report structures, and style guidelines.
Standardize language across findings and recommendations to improve readability and reduce rework.
Ensure documentation is prepared for TPM-led delivery, review, and submission.
PMO & Knowledge Management Support Partner with TPMs to support documentation needs across multiple concurrent projects.
Organize and maintain documentation and templates in internal Wikis, PlexTrac report writing software, and derivative Microsoft Word and PDF files.
Ensure consistent naming conventions and version control of edited documents.
Contribute to documentation standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
