The IPTSE CAE/Core department CFD section is responsible for analyzing the engine airpath, combustion, metal temperature, cooling, fuel, air intake, hot end exhaust and lubrication systems. Members of the section use various CFD methods to quantify hardware impacts on engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, NVH, and durability to help drive the engine design and address issues that arise during the engine development process. Specific studies may include intake and exhaust port flow, secondary gas (EGR, PCV, purge) distribution, 1D3D for intake and exhaust manifold performance, exhaust manifold HTC map generation, CHT Metal temperature, in-cylinder combustion for fuel consumption and CSER emissions, fuel injector targeting, catalyst brick face utilization, UEGO sensor response, oil pan dynamics, fuel and urea tank sloshing, low pressure fuel system restriction, and air intake system restriction.
