Position Summary Location: Portland, OR Duration: 10 Weeks (June 8- Aug 14) Hours: Full-time, 30 to 40 hours per week At Hanna Andersson, we create clothing that celebrates childhood and adventure. Our summer internship program offers hands-on experience, professional development, and meaningful work that contributes to the business while providing real exposure to how our teams operate. The Technical Design Intern will gain hands-on experience within the Technical Design function through involvement in fit, block management, sample evaluation, and product development processes. This role will contribute to a block library optimization initiative designed to improve the clarity, usability, and consistency of core blocks across product categories and vendors. The internship is intended for someone interested in apparel fit, garment construction, technical product development, and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Technical Design, Apparel Design, Apparel Product Development, Fashion Merchandising, Textile Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0-1 years (internship, coursework, or volunteer work in related fields is a plus).
  • Interest in apparel fit, garment construction, and product development
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets, data, and documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply feedback in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be based in the Greater Portland area (hybrid in-office requirement).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PLM systems is a plus
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator is a plus
  • Openness to learning new tools and technologies, including AI, with an interest in how they can thoughtfully support efficiency, insight, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the audit and organization of the Technical Design block library within the PLM system
  • Review existing block information to help identify redundancies, inconsistencies, and documentation gaps
  • Contribute to the development of a consolidated Excel-based block library tool with standardized naming, organization, visuals, and key reference information
  • Help document usage guidance informed by historical usage patterns, fit observations, and relative fit risk indicators
  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly Technical Design fittings to gain exposure to fit evaluation, fit discussion, and decision-making processes
  • Measure samples against specifications and assist in preparing garments for fittings and review
  • Gain exposure to technical pack creation and maintenance through observation and selected project-based work, as appropriate
  • Participate in data gathering, documentation, and project organization related to Technical Design initiatives
  • Attend regular check-ins with the Intern Manager to review priorities, progress, and learning objectives
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and learning sessions, as schedules allow, to build knowledge of the broader product development process
  • Present a final summary of project work, insights, and recommendations at the conclusion of the internship
