We're seeking a highly motivated and skilled Team Leader, Mechanical Engineering to manage, lead, and mentor the engineering staff that works on technology development within the Emerging Technologies Department. The Emerging Technologies Department works on cutting-edge research involving innovative design, integration, and implementation of emerging opto-electronics components.  In this role, you will work alongside other experienced engineers and scientists to develop novel, cutting-edge solutions and facilitate the transition of new technologies out of Research and Development into practical applications and new products. As a technical leader, you would provide hands-on technical contributions while overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects within defined timelines and budget constraints. This role is 80% technical and 20% management. This is an on-site role located in Torrance, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experience in relevant Engineering field with 2+ years in a leadership or mentoring capacity.
  • Advanced proficiency in solid modeling using SolidWorks (preferred) or other CAD tools such as Pro-E or CATIA.
  • Strong experience with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS) for structural and thermal simulation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in DFM, GD&T, and producing manufacturing drawings for production environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in written form, with both internal and external customers (and suppliers).
  • Effective problem-solving and organizational skills, self-motivation, and detail-oriented, exhibiting dedication to accuracy and responsiveness.
  • Ability to lead and positively motivate a diverse workforce.
  • Flexibility to maintain productivity and enthusiasm in a fast-evolving, team-oriented environment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on engineering work in designing, developing, and implementing technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership to a multidisciplinary team (mechanical, electronics, software) focused on transitioning new technologies from R&D into production to enhance our military and aerospace product line.
  • Coordinate with Project Leads to establish project timelines and support or perform technical effort estimation.
  • Monitor daily project operations and support team members in overcoming obstacles to enhance overall team efficiency and productivity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills demonstrated by preparing documentation, technical reports, and presentations.
  • Develop and review project documentation including ICDs, test plans (ATP/QTP), and milestone review presentations (SRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels and across diverse technical backgrounds
